Recycled Riches focuses on promoting clothing companies that use recycled materials to create their products. But what specific recycled materials are they using? Plastic? Fabric? Cardboard?
These companies are up-cycling textiles, which means clothing that would otherwise be put into the landfill and take years to decompose and release toxins that pollute our air. This is an important step in reversing the severe effects of climate change on the earth. It’s estimated that only 15% of all clothing is recycled, which is why our organization works with companies that are focused on reusing rather than wasting. You too can make a difference by donating your unwanted clothing to thrift stores such as Goodwill or Plato’s Closet. Many large companies such as North Face, Nike, and H&M have all started programs that allow you to donate unwanted clothing at participating stores and often get store credit for doing so. It’s small changes like this that make the biggest changes, so the next time you go through your closet, think about donating your clothes rather than throwing them away.
